New Safer 2 and 3 Pin Connecting Plugs

The Standard AS/NZS 3112:2004 - Plugs and Socket Outlets, requires all 2 pin and 3 pin plugs up to a rating of 15 Amperes to have insulated live pins from April 3 2005.

The use of insulation on the live portion of pins that do not engage with the contacts of socket outlets eliminates the following when the plug is partially engaged into the socket:

• the possibility of an infant's fingers contacting live pins
• the possibility of small metal objects falling between the plug and the socket, contacting live pins
