Work in proximity to exposed electricity conductors is dependent on the level of competency of the operator. The Electricity (General) Regulations 1997 - Section 23A, details the working distances of various voltage levels for different competency levels.
Table 2 of Schedule 6 of the Regulations includes the clearances required between vehicles and machines with an elevating component, for example cherry pickers, and aerial powerlines.
An ETSA Utilities Network Access Permit is required to arrange for powerlines to be de-energised, when work closer than the safe approach limits is unavoidable.
