Underground cables

The legislation requires that underground lines must be designed, installed, operated and maintained to be safe for the electrical service conditions and physical environment in which they operate. The Electricity (General) Regulations 1997 This link opens up in a new window- Schedule 3, defines the requirements for underground lines (including service lines) and Table 1 in Schedule 3 defines the minimum depth of underground cables.

Minimum Depth

Section 39A of the Regulations defines minimum clearance distances required from underground powerlines.
