GreenPower products are the perfect solution for people who want to support renewable energy generation without investing directly in renewable energy plants. When you buy a certain amount of GreenPower, your electricity retailer ensures that the same amount of environmentally friendly, renewable energy is supplied into the electricity network.

GreenPower gives you the choice to support electricity generation from clean, renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, biomass, and hydro power. It supports commercial development of renewable energy which should reduce our dependence on fossil fuels over time.

The Government in SA is a member of the National GreenPower Steering Group which accredits GreenPower products through the National GreenPower Accreditation Program. South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, and the ACT all operate the accreditation program through a central program manager (NSW). All States Territories and the Commonwealth participated in the development of the GreenPower definition and the accreditation program.

The National GreenPower Accreditation Program sets the rules for GreenPower products and audits accredited electricity generators and retailers. Only renewable energy products that display the GreenPower logo are government accredited.

The average household contributes 6.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year to the atmosphere through their electricity use and might spend up to $5.50 extra per week to subscribe to 100% GreenPower or pay less for a lower percentage. You don't need to purchase 100% GreenPower to make a positive contribution to the environment.  Visit the GreenPower website to find a GreenPower retailer in South Australia.

For information regarding the National GreenPower Accreditation Program and GreenPower retailers, please refer to the GreenPower website. The site also contains detailed information about the accreditation process, current information on accreditation program matters, like audit reports and updates on the program, logo guidelines, frequently asked questions and links to related sites.
