Electricity

Electricity supply interruptions can have a wide range of causes, which impact on the system in different ways, and prompt different reactions from National Electricity Market (NEM) institutions and Governments.

Gas

Outline of administrative procedures for controlling the supply of natural gas during periods when there has been a significant interruption to supply of natural gas. These procedures are administered by Energy Division to ensure that the safety and integrity of the State's gas distribution infrastructure is maintained and that essential services (e.g. hospitals , nursing homes and food processors) and domestic gas consumers are able to obtain gas during a period of gas supply shortage.

Petrol

Should an interruption to petroleum supplies lead to a significant fuel shortage in the State, the Minister for Energy can take control of the sale of restricted petroleum products under terms of the Petroleum Products Regulation Act 1995.  The Act provides for Ministerial Directions, changes to retail outlet licence conditions, the responsibilities of service station proprietors and operators, a range of penalties for breaching Ministerial Directions etc
