The Natural Gas Authority of South Australia (NGASA) was established on 30 June 1995 following the sale of the operational activities of the Pipelines Authority of South Australia and the sale of the Moomba to Adelaide pipeline. NGASA is currently part of the Energy Division. NGASA's responsibility for the administration of gas sales agreements with the Cooper Basin Producers and two of the State's licensed gas retailers ended on 1 January 2006. The Natural Gas Authority Act 1967 as amended (the Act), forms the overarching legislative framework for NGASA's activities. Under section 6 of the Act, NGASA is constituted of the Minister for Mineral Resources Development, The Hon. Paul Holloway, who has delegated his functions to the Minister for Energy, The Hon. Patrick Conlon. NGASA's primary function is to maintain title to 'pipeline land' for the purposes of the liquids pipeline from Moomba to Stony Point.
