Incident Reporting

Incident Statistics

All major gas incidents reported are investigated by the Technical Regulator's staff or other authorised officers. The Technical Regulator maintains a record of these incidents so that trends can be identified and remedial action taken. All gas fatalities are investigated by the Technical Regulator, as are gas installation incidents and distribution network incidents where the network operator may have been negligent.

The Technical Regulator has records of gas-related deaths, injuries and property damage from 1997. Prior to that, records of incidents were kept by individual LPG companies.

Similarly, the Technical Regulator maintains a record of all electric shocks and fatalities. All electrical fatalities are investigated by the Technical Regulator's staff, as are incidents on the electricity transmission and distribution network where the network operator may have been at fault.

The Technical Regulator also prepares reports for the Coroner as required.

Statistics are published in the Technical Regulator's Annual Report.
