Gas Utility Licensing

Gas Utility Licensing (Distributors and Retailers)

Prior to 1 July 2003, the Technical Regulator was responsible for administering gas industry licensing functions.

Amendments to the Gas Act 1997 came into operation on 1 July 2003. From that date, the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA) assumed certain regulatory functions in relation to the South Australian gas supply industry, including responsibility for the licensing of gas entities (gas retailers, distributors and the retail market administrator) and pricing and access functions.

ESCOSA maintains gas entity licensing data, records incoming fees and annual licence instalment dates. The commission also maintains a licence register, recording such data as names of licence holders, terms and conditions of the licence, and type of licence held. The register, in accordance with Section 32 of the Gas Act 1997, is open to the public for inspection free of charge. For more information on gas industry licensing please visit the ESCOSA Link to an external web sitewebsite.
