Electricity Industry Regulation

The Electricity Act 1996, Electricity (General) Regulations 1997 and Electricity (Principles of Vegetation Clearance) Regulations 1996 are the main components of the regulation of the electricity industry in South Australia.

The Technical Regulator is responsible for the monitoring and regulation of safety and technical standards in the electricity supply industry, electrical installations and, under the Electrical Products Act 2000, electrical appliances.

This section provides general information on the legislative framework and committee representation by Office of the Technical Regulator staff.

Office of the Technical Regulator staff are represented on various standards and advisory committees to ensure that the regulatory views of the OTR are considered in developing various industry Standards/Codes or in the development or administration of functions related to OTR responsibilities by the Government or industry.
