All work on electrical installations must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
The Technical Regulator is responsible for the monitoring and regulation of safety and technical standards with respect to electrical installations. The technical standards are designed to ensure that an electrical installation is safe to connect to the electricity supply and safe to use. The tradespeople carrying out this work have to be appropriately licensed and are required to issue an Electrical Certificate of Compliance. The Technical Regulator administers and audits the Electrical Certificates of Compliance Scheme to ensure the safety of consumer's installations.
A significant proportion of the consumer enquires received by the Technical Regulator have been complaints relating to workmanship of electrical contractors.
