The Greenhouse Allies program establishes partnerships between industry and government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The South Australian Motor Trades Association (MTA) Allies Program was the first undertaken in Australia with the Commonwealth funding a joint industry/State Government energy efficiency program for participating MTA members. A similar program with the SA Wine and Brandy Industry Association commenced in June 2000.

The Greenhouse Challenge is a nationwide initiative with over 400 members, including 16 of the top 100 companies in Australia, all keen to do something good for the environment and save money. South Australia is participating in the Greenhouse Challenge through the SA Challenge 100, in which the recruiting agent, Business SA, aims to get over 100 companies to join the program.

There are three stages to SA Challenge 100. The first involves making a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Then you can sign a cooperative agreement, followed by reporting on progress and how you are doing at saving emissions. If your company chooses to join SA Challenge 100, you can expect the following benefits:

    * Saving money on your energy bills
    * Improving environmental management practices leading to leaner overall business practices
    * Gaining access to new technology members receive new information, including regular environmental forums
    * Access to a data base of suppliers and consultants and financial assistance for undertaking energy audits
    * Get some recognition for your efforts upon completion of your cooperative agreement, you will be able to display the Greenhouse Challenge logo, which is a great marketing tool
